ENVIROTHON

What is Envirothon?

The Envirothon is a hand-on natural resources competition for high school students to learn more about our natural environment by testing their knowledge on topics such as soil, water, forestry, wildlife, and current environmental issues. Teams learn that cooperation is needed to achieve success, and participation in the competition is a meaningful experience for both students and their advisors. Activities are designed to help students become environmentally aware, action-oriented adults.

Envirothon 2026's topic is: Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change.

When is Envirothon?

The Envirothon competition will be held on Friday, April 25th at the Clemson Sandhills REC in Columbia, SC. Registration is required.

How can I participate?

There is a registration fee of $175. Greenville County Soil and Water Conservation District accepts donations to sponsor several teams from Greenville County. These donations ensure that teachers and schools participating with a team do not have to fund their own way, and opens up opportunities to schools. If you are interested in participating in Envirothon or would like to sponsor a team, please contact Olivia Reed, our District Programs Coordinator, at oreed@greenvillecounty.org. The last day to register teams is March 31st, 2026.

Are there any tools to help my team prepare for Envirothon?

There is a Coaches Training on Sunday, February 1st, 2026 at Clemson Sandhill REC in Columbia. This is a FREE training that will include what is expected on competition day, the current topic, and potential exam questions. Coaches who attend this training are not obligated to bring a team to the Envirothon. Registration is required for this training and ends on January 24th, 2026.

Visit https://www.dnr.sc.gov/education/Envirothon/index.html for more information and to register for Coaches training and team registration.

GCSWCD has Envirothon Training Trunks which we loan out to Greenville coaches to practice with their students. Contact Olivia Reed for a trunk!
